Massage and Bodywork Descriptions

Basic Swedish Massage:

Swedish massage is the most popular type of massage in the United States. It involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. The benefits of Swedish massage include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation, decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion.

Deep Tissue Massage:

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly.

Aromatherapy Massage:

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote healing and a feeling of  well-being and relaxation in the recipient. The essential oils are extracted from  the parts of herbs and plants and contain all the properties of the plants  themselves. There are several ways of applying the oils, including adding the  oils to your bath, or inhaling them, but the most popular and effective is  through massage.

Pregnancy Massage:

Prenatal massage helps a pregnant women to relax tense muscles and reduce stress  and anxiety associated with labor. It also works to relieve pain. The  expanding womb puts a lot stress on the shoulders, abdominal area and back  muscles of the mother, and lower back pain is very common during pregnancy.   A  prenatal massage therapist can apply pressure to specific sore spots to relieve  tension and pain.  However, certain pressure points should be avoided, such as  the wrists and ankles, because they might stimulate pelvic and uterus muscles  and lead to premature labor.

Migraine/Sinus Relief Treatment:

There are a few preliminary questions that I will ask to determine the type of discomfort you are experiencing to better inform me as to the areas to focus my attention in on. This treatment begins with a cold application over the face and specific sinus area to help reduce swelling and ends with a heat application at the end to help increase drainage. It is executed with a series of trigger or pressure points to relieve pressure associated with migraines and sinus issues.

Hand/Foot Reflexology Treatment:

Reflexology, or zone therapy, is an alternative medicine involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet, hands, or ears with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques with or without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on what reflexologists claim to be a system of zones and reflex areas that they say reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

The Zen Approach Therapy:

Reiki is a form of therapy that uses simple hands-on, no-touch, and visualization techniques, with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person. Reiki (pronounced ray-key ) means "universal life energy" in Japanese, and Reiki practitioners are trained to detect and alleviate problems of energy flow on the physical, emotional, and spiritual level. Reiki touch therapy is used in much the same way to achieve similar effects that traditional massage therapy is usedto relieve stress and pain, and to improve the symptoms of various health condition.

Shiatsu is a manipulative therapy developed in Japan and incorporating techniques of anma (Japanese traditional massage), acupressure, stretching, and Western massage. Shiatsu involves applying pressure to special points or areas on the body in order to maintain physical and mental well being, treat disease, or alleviate discomfort. This therapy is considered holistic because it attempts to treat the whole person instead of a specific medical complaint. All types of acupressure generally focus on the same pressure points and so-called energy pathways, but may differ in terms of massage technique. Shiatsu, which can be translated as finger pressure, has been described as needle-free acupuncture.

*Please, note that the below treatment  can sometimes heighten sun sensitivities, avoid extended periods of time in the sun for the next 24 hours after this treatment*

Kaolin clay is combined with Lime, Lemon and Grapefruit essential oils for a sensory experience that is as wonderful for your skin as for your spirits.

Kaolin clay- Most clays are too absorptive and drying for use on sensitive or overly dry skin, and yet these skin types need cleansing and detoxifying too. White (or Kaolin) clay is the mildest and gentlest of all clays; however, it is non-comedogenic. Without drawing out oils, White Clay will gently exfoliate and cleanse dry, sensitive skin while helping to stimulate circulation and improve tone.

Lime-When used in a cream or lotion, it is helpful to clear oily congested skin and is also often used to help fight cellulite to remove the dimpling effect from the skin. Also helpful with painful muscles and joints, respiratory problems and as well as when colds and flu strike.

Lemon-The antiseptic effect of this oil can help to treat any cuts, boils and minor wounds. The rubefacient action of the oil further helps to sort out cellulite, as well as helping with acne.

Grapefruit-has a high vitamin C content and is therefore valuable to the immune system. It helps protect against colds and flu, has a very positive effect on obesity and also has diuretic properties, helping to remove excess water from the body and is therefore also great for treating cellulite.
